Biography

Carol has been involved in cases relating to basic compound patents, formulation patents and use patents and has been involved extensively in litigation relating to trade-marks for the appearance of pharmaceuticals. Carol has written numerous papers and given presentations for the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Canadian Bar Association, including presentations to Federal Court judges and prothonotaries. Carol has taught Patent Agent Tutorials for IPIC as well as the IPIC’s McGill Patents course. Carol is also a regular contributor to the Federated Press IP Bulletins.

Biography

Dale was called to the bar of Ontario in 1992 after obtaining his law degree, LLB, from York University (Osgoode Hall Law School) and a B.Sc. (First Class Honours Chemistry) from the University of New Brunswick. Dale is counsel in intellectual property matters including the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, Federal Court, Federal Court of Appeal and advocacy before the Trade Marks Opposition Board. Dale was previously a partner and chair of the intellectual property group at a national law firm and has written numerous articles on various aspects of intellectual property including patent disclaimers, use of trademarks with services and appeals of orders of prothonotaries in Federal Court. Kristina Zilic joined Sprigings Intellectual Property Law in July 2016 after completing her J.D. at the University of Ottawa. Before attending law school, Kristina earned her Master of Science in Biology with a Collaborative Degree in Environment and Sustainability at the University of Western Ontario. Her thesis examined the population genetic structure of the pitcher plant mosquito across multiple spatial scales using AFLP markers. Kristina also earned her Bachelor of Science at the University of Western Ontario. At the 2015 Ontario Trial Lawyers Association Cup, Kristina won the Bonn Law Award for Best Cross-Examination. In 2014, she competed in the University of Ottawa Negotiation Competition at Dentons Canada LLP. Kristina has co-authored an article on the impact of competition law in the mediation of patent disputes.

Amisa has Dual Canadian and American J.D. Degrees from the University of Windsor and the University of Detroit Mercy. Before law school, Amisa earned an Honours Bachelor of Science Degree in Honours Life Sciences from McMaster University. During her senior year at McMaster University, Amisa completed her thesis on the effect of kin recognition on male and female reproductive allocation in A. artemiisifolia plants which yielded significant results. Throughout law school, honing her passion for litigation, Amisa engaged in competitive mooting dealing with a wide latitude of issues centered on American and Canadian legislation. As well, Amisa competed in a negotiation competition where training was provided at Goodmans LLP. Currently, Amisa is an active executive member-at-large of the intellectual property section of the Ontario Bar Association. On her free time, Amisa volunteers for Sponsorship Support Program Toronto, providing legal support.

Annissa Kwok

Annissa Kwok completed the Canadian and American Juris Doctor Program at the University of Windsor Faculty of Law and the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. Annissa previously attended the University of Toronto and completed an Honours Bachelor of Science in Human Biology, with a research focus in Arabidopsis thaliana gene expression.

Annissa has served as a litigator with Community Legal Aid in Windsor, Ontario, and as a member of the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers. After her first year of law school, Annissa interned for Beaumont Health in Dearborn, Michigan. In her second year of law school, Annissa was selected to represent University of Windsor in the International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition. Annissa and her team advanced to the semi-final round in White Plains, New York. Annissa worked at the International Property Law Clinic in Detroit, Michigan, and competed in the International Patent Drafting Competition hosted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. She was invited to attend the 91st Annual Meeting of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada in Niagara, Ontario. In her final year, Annissa was selected to represent University of Windsor in the 16th Annual Oxford International Intellectual Property Law Moot Competition held in Oxford, United Kingdom. Annissa was nominated and selected to be a member of the Michigan Intellectual Property Inn of Court.
